Description: This work was very strange for me to create. I struggled with it because I found the sculpture to be “ugly” and difficult to integrate into my normal style of segmenting and contrasting hard stone with fragile foliage. But I still had to make it happen for some reason. I inevitably felt like I achieved a good balance of “ugly” on one side of the image and beauty on the other. I feel like the lovely flowers dressed up the curmudgeon just enough in order to not be viewed as “ugly” any more. I love exploring the contrast of opposites and seeing what happens when they interact.
