Description: Making this painting was one of my favorites as of late. It was very low stakes for me. Normally I plan my images to a point that I never deviate from the strategy. However, for this one all I did was structure the composition of the figures. The rest was just to go for it, colors and everything. I feel like that spontaneity brings more life into this image and I will be integrating that into my new works more now. Also, I love the story of why the lion looks so funny looking. In the ancient world the person carving the image was often not the individual that saw the creature in person. I think of this as being a game of "telephone" that went wrong in the end, getting things Lost in Translation, but yet so right for me because I appreciate ridiculous looking creatures like this.
